The General Exam Regulations is a document where everything that has to do with obtaining credit points is regulated to some extent, therefore it is not a bad idea to read it at some point.

This list is not complete, not legally binding and we would always advise to read for yourself or ask the suitable person.

  • The standard period of study is specified in the AFBs of your specific study program. (§6 Abs. 1,3)
  • You fail your study program, if it takes you more than twice the standard period of study (Bachelor) or the standard period of study plus four semesters (Master) to complete the necessary courses. (§6 Abs. 4)
  • It is possible to obtain credits for previous studies or a job. (§9)
  • You need to at least register for an exam 14 days in advance. (§10 Abs. 2a)
  • Course assessments are not subject to a restriction on attempts and are not included in the final grade (§13 Abs. 2)
  • The students may be subject to an exam (additional exams) in addition to the mandatory and electoral subjects or modules or sub-modules stipulated by the regulatory statutes. §20 part 3 applies (§13 Abs. 3)
  • If you follow a Bachelor’s degree with a consecutive Master’s degree, it is possible to obtain up to 24 credit points for the Master’s degree while still in the Bachelor program. (§13 Abs. 4)
  • In case your admission for the Master’s program is dependent on passing some additional exams, you have three trials for those exams. (§13 Abs. 5)
  • A written exam takes between 60 and 240 minutes, an oral exam takes between 20 and 60 minutes. (§14 Abs. 3 + 4)
  • For a seminar it is necessary to do a presentation and sometimes a write-up of that presentation. (§14 Abs. 5)
  • In some modules there is a bonus system, where you can improve your grade up to one step, if you had passed without that bonus. (§18 Abs. 5)
  • Theses are dealt with in §16
    • A Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis can be repeated once. (§16 Abs. 13)
    • They must be printed three times. (§16 Abs. 10)
  • Examinations taken for the first time during the standard period of study are considered free trials (§20 Abs. 1)
  • Six examinations that were passed in the free attempt may be repeated once each to improve the grade; the better result counts (§20 Abs. 1)
  • Independent of the free trial, there are three trials for each test (one regular and two retries) (§20 Abs. 3)
  • Every exam can be taken once per semester. (§20 Abs. 4)
